DSC01606In corner two…4o year-old Julia Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon recipe.

DSC01603Prepping, searing, browning, braising, & baking.  Each competitor brought their best honed skills. Mom didn’t miss a beat. Seven ladies reading the recipes, verifying step by step.  The pressure was on.

DSC01609Beef was browned, stock and wine were added.  The whole pot was put into an oven for 2.5 hours. Mushrooms were browned, pearl onions were sauteed and braised.  The meat was removed and the liquid was cooked down for a sauce.

DSC01611It was a fierce battle, but Mom pushed onward. Potatoes were boiled, then butter and parsley were added.  Baby green peas were cooked with more butter added.  And the final result….

DSC01613Mom kicked butt, took names and served up a fantastic Sunday Smack Down Dinner!!

And of course for dessert we had to have Julia’s favorite birthday cake-Reine De Saba (Queen of Sheba). Get recipe here.

DSC01623The Boeuf Bourguignon recipe is about four pages long and takes most of a Sunday to make.  So invite some friends over, break out a few bottles of wine and enjoy one of Julia’s best known recipes.  Bon appetit!

p.s. not sure why this is all getting underlined in red, but I’m going to go with that this recipe is very important and something has possessed my computer and insists on you making it!
