Belly Shack, Bananas & A Book

There’s something nice about some Korean BBQ and homemade Kimchi on a blustery cold Chicago day. Belly Shack is the second placed owned by Chef Bill Kim. The other is Urban Belly; which was posted about a few weeks ago.   Inside is done in gray ‘Bansky-like’ style.  The menu offers 16 options- all simple- all done to perfection.  There is a reason why both restaurants are listed on Michelin’s Bib Gourmand Guide.

The combination of  sweet BBQ, spicy Kimchi, and fresh warm flat bread- it just doesn’t get any better!

Today, author Joan Reardon was in town talking about her latest book ‘As Always Julia.’

The book is a collection of letters written back and forth between Julia and Avis Devoto in regards to the publishing of Mastering The Art of French Cooking.  This book gives the reader a different view and behind the scenes look of what it took to get the book published.  Not to mention, no one writes letters like they did back in the 50’s.   Joan was friends with Julia at the time she lived in Cambridge.  What I liked most about Joan was that she was an English teacher who thought it was time a female chef got some recognition and decided to write the book herself!

Bananas!  Found this recipe for banana macadamia nut muffins. These muffins are really moist and the nuts top it off!

And on a side note a new cupcake shop opened up downtown.  Lucky for me they were giving away 1000 free cupcakes for their grand opening. It is called Crumbs Bake Shop.

The menu is HUGE. Cupcakes come in 3 sizes and the largest is priced out at $3.75.  So the list for Chicago cupcakes goes like this….

    Boy could I wrap my mouth around a couple of those big chocolate cupcakes…..I can almost taste them…..YUM!!

    Right! I got the Squiggle.. Chocolate cake, chocolate icing with a cream filing!
