The great thing about moving to a new place is finding little gems to dine at. Growing up I was never a breakfast person and then in my mid-30’s that all change. There is nothing I love more than going out to breakfast. My friend Louise and I always went to the Tahitian Inn in Florida. All kinds of characters would show up for some a.m. grub and most times we would leave more entertained then when we had arrived.
What a treat to have been given the 411 on this little place from a local. Blue Max Cafe is basically a house converted into a breakfast/lunch joint. They are open from 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. seven days a week. And the great part about the cafe is that the coffee is roasted on premise. The owner Terry, used to work for the Chicago Board of Trade and quit to pursue coffee. All the coffee is organic and he is supporting fair-trade practices. Orange juice is hand squeezed, vegetables reign the menu, and yeah the coffee is top-notch.
I ordered a huge bowl of the organic steel cut oatmeal. The oatmeal came with bananas, blueberries, raisins, brown sugar, and a dash of milk. Topped it off with a mug of the dark roast and cool glass of OJ….I was set!
Definitely found my go-to place for a nice Saturday breakfast with the locals. Spring is in the air and I can see spending copious amounts of time on their outdoor deck sipping on a locally roasted cup of organic joe.
